     Community Educational Programs & Providers

There are many agencies, organizations and educational institutions within your local community that can assist you in attaining or upgrading your educational level. This local directory will provide you with links to public, private and alternative high schools, colleges and universities as well as to  adult and continuing education sites in your local area. The Kentucky Department of Education School Directory will provide a listing of all public schools in Kentucky.

Kentucky Virtual University

Have you dreamed about getting a college degree or upgrading your educational level, but think it is not possible because of your busy schedule, a demanding job or transportation problems?  The Kentucky Virtual University has the solution!  Do you like the concept of learning at your own pace, at a time that is convenient for you in the comfort of your own home?  Got your attention?

Kentucky Virtual High School

The Kentucky Virtual High School is a statewide educational service delivering high school courses and online learning opportunities to Kentuckians. KVHS courses are delivered to public high schools through the Kentucky Education Technology System.

Kentucky Virtual Library

Can't keep up with that library card?  Do you find that when you have free time to spend at your local library, it is often not within the normal operating hours of the library? We would like to introduce you to the Kentucky Virtual Library, open seven-days-a week, 24-hours-a-day!

Research, data collection, or just the pleasure of browsing through interesting facts and information is just a click away at www.kyvl.org.   Imagine having the ability to access the vast collection of data currently housed in libraries all across Kentucky without stepping outside the comforts of your home and without your library card! 

 Kentucky Virtual Adult Education

The Kentucky Virtual Adult Education Web site (KYVAE), is the newest addition to virtual learning.  KYVAE provides adult learners with the basic information they need to start or continue their education. The KYVAE site provides adult learners and instructors access to literacy information, curriculum, resources and services on the internet. The site is dedicated to helping adult learners achieve their personal learning goals, which include skills improvement, grade level goals and/or completion of the GED.

FREE services, such as the Kentucky Virtual Library (KYVL), Call Center/Help Desk, and Computer Help Desk are also available here. Online tutoring and writing assistance is also provided through KYVU.

KYVAE also provides FREE professional development opportunities, online resources, lesson plans, reference librarians, and access to other help services for Adult Educators.  


     Financial Aid

In Kentucky, the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority provides loans to qualified students. Financial aid is also available from the United States Department of Education in the form of grants, loans, and work-study assistance. These Student Financial Assistance Programs are the largest source of financial aid in America. There are many internet sites that offer free on-line searches for financial aid information, grant and scholarship programs as well as a variety of other education oriented information and guidance.


     School to Work 

The School-to-Work Program is jointly administered by the United States
Departments of Education and Labor. The School to Work program in Kentucky prepares students to meet the state’s current and future workforce needs. It seeks to promote career education into every Kentuckian’s school experience.  In the Northern Kentucky Area the School-to-Work Program offers a number of projects such as Job Shadowing, College Nights, Parent Seminars and more.  


     Workforce Investment Act (WIA)

The Workforce Investment Act of 1998 was enacted to consolidate, coordinate, and improve employment, training, literacy, and vocational rehabilitation programs in the United States.  In Kentucky the Workforce Development Cabinet's Department of Training and ReEmployment (DTR) is the state agency responsible for the administration of the employment and training programs funded by WIA. Services are available to eligible adults, youth, and dislocated workers. The WIA legislation replaces the former Job Training Partnership Act (JTPA). The Northern Kentucky Area Development District (NKADD) administers the WIA services in the Northern Kentucky Area.  The One-Stop Career Alliance of Northern Kentucky was awarded the contract to operate the one-stop system. This group is made up of Department for Employment Services, Department of Vocational Rehabilitation and NKADD.
